Volunteer to Help Small Businesses Succeed and Grow

Are you ready to retire from your regular job, but still want to contribute to the business community? Or, are you a working business professional who wants to volunteer your expertise to help small businesses succeed?

SCORE may be just the opportunity you are looking for to share your business knowledge and experience. You can stay active in the local and national small business marketplace by helping emerging businesses to succeed.

The SCORE Association (Counselors to America's Small Business) is the premiere small business counseling and advice organization in the United States. SCORE is a non-profit organization composed of 10,500 volunteer business mentors--both working and retired--who, working out of 389 chapters, counsel existing and start-up businesses throughout the country.

As a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), SCORE operates in cooperation with the agency to provide business owners with information, resources and tools vital to their success. In our counseling locations, SCORE volunteers provide free, confidential face-to-face counseling and conduct low-cost entrepreneurial seminars and workshops. Many volunteers also provide online advice directly from their home or office computers through the SCORE Association's national email counseling facility.

Who are SCORE Volunteers?

SCORE volunteers are drawn from every facet of the business community. Some have worked as managers and executives at large corporations and countless others have spent years cultivating their own small businesses. All are ready to give their time and business insights back to emerging and existing business owners. What better way to use the knowledge you've spent years developing than to mentor some new or struggling in the business world?

Benefits of SCORE Volunteerism

Most SCORE members say that staying abreast of current business trends and helping small businesses succeed and grow is the only reward they need for volunteering. You will also:

  • Enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to the success of others
  • Gain the respect and recognition of your peers and associates
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge that led to your successful career
  • Provide leadership to your community
  • Enjoy opportunities for ongoing education

Do You Possess the Right Skills to Volunteer with SCORE?

  • Real-world business, administrative and management expertise
  • Computer literacy
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to grow and accept change
  • Desire to stay current with the new business economy
  • Talent for leading others

SCORE of Princeton is looking for men and women with significant business experience to join our Chapter. We are especially interested in having active and retired women and members of minority groups become counselors and trainers. The addition of women and minority counselors will provide SCORE with more mentors for our growing clientele of women and minority entrepreneurs.
